How CBD Oil Differs From Hemp Oil https://justasksusie.com/2019/07/28/how-cbd-oil-differs-from-hemp-oil/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-cbd-oil-differs-from-hemp-oil Sun, 28 Jul 2019 18:40:08 +0000 https://justasksusie.com/?p=633 Knowing the difference is important!

CBD oil and hemp oil are not the same. Since CBD products are popping up everywhere it is important to know the difference, and read the labels. Many CBD products do not even contain CBD.

Hemp oil is made by cold compressing hemp seeds. The seeds of a hemp plant do not contain CBD. Hemp oil contain protein, and the health fatty acids, omega-3 and omega-6, which are good for you. Bu hemp oil is not CBD.

The difference is important because CBD oil has benefits such as decreasing swelling, decreasing pain, balancing mood swings and helping with a good night sleep. These benefits will be lacking if your CBD product doesn’t contain CBD or is diluted.

So when looking at the label keep the following in mind:
Just like with food, less ingredients are better. Look for CBD in a carrier such as hemp oil. You will have the benefits of CBD with the added benefits of hemp oi.

Make sure the CBD product you’re buying really contains CBD. Look for the word “cannabidiol” in the ingredients. Ask questions.

Look for products that have been third party tested. Third party testing looks for traces of heavy metals, pesticides and solvents that pose risk to consumers. CBD imported from outside the United States have a greater chance of containing heavy metals and pesticides. Ask question, find out where the hemp was grown.

Look for non-GMO and grown using organic methods.

Hope this helps to clear up any confusion about CBD oil and hemp oil. Feel free to comment or email any questions.

Do You Exfoliate? https://justasksusie.com/2019/07/21/do-you-exfoliate/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=do-you-exfoliate Sun, 21 Jul 2019 14:17:57 +0000 https://justasksusie.com/?p=628  🤔 If you don’t, you should. It’s important to exfoliate your skin at least twice a week. Exfoliating will help your skin in the following ways:
⭐ Improves skin texture and tone, bye bye dry, dull skin.
⭐ Fights the signs of aging, woo hoo!!
⭐ Helps prevent break-outs.
⭐Removes left over dirt and makeup.
⭐Helps skin care products penetrate deeper.
And what better way to exfoliate than with a chemical free, NYR organic scrub. One of my favs is honey and orange- smells like summer.

Read Your Labels https://justasksusie.com/2019/06/28/read-your-labels/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=read-your-labels Fri, 28 Jun 2019 01:54:49 +0000 https://justasksusie.com/?p=614 Reading food labels has become popular, but are you reading your skin care labels? Here are 10 harmful chemicals to avoid:

  1. Parabens- chemical preservative found in a lot of personal care products such as shampoos, moisturizers, and foundations. Excessive exposure may lead to breast cancer.
  2. Sulfates- sodium laurel sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate are the two most often used in products. Possible carcinogen.
  3. Phthalates- endocrine disruptors linked to breast cancer and birth defects.
  4. Formaldehyde- classified as a human carcinogen.
  5. Propylene Glycol- can cause skin rashes, and has been shown to cause kidney and liver damage.
  6. Aluminum- common ingredient in deodorants. Has been linked to Alzheimer’s Disease.
  7. Talc- Linked to an increase development in ovarian cancer and inhaling powder with talc can have long term health consequences.
  8. Isopropyl Alcohol- can cause skin irritations and premature skin ageing.
  9. BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole)- possible human carcinogen. Interferes with the reproductive system and thyroid hormone levels.
  10. Triclosan and triclocarban- have been linked to hormonal disruption, impaired immune function, increased allergies, and bacterial resistance.

How to avoid these toxins: read the labels. Look for products with essential oils and herbs. Keep in mind that Europe has banned over 1100 chemicals in their skin care products, the U.S. has only ban 14 chemicals. Check where your products are made!

10 Quick Tips For a Healthier You. https://justasksusie.com/2019/06/11/10-quick-tips-for-a-healthier-you/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=10-quick-tips-for-a-healthier-you Tue, 11 Jun 2019 23:41:51 +0000 https://justasksusie.com/?p=574 We all want to take steps to better health but struggle to find the time in our busy schedules. Or maybe the changes just seem overwhelming. Well worry no more, here are 10 simple ways to improve health.

  1. Silence your phone, say what???????? Well at least silence your phone at night. Don’t let calls and texts interrupt a deep sleep.
  2. Deep clean those dish sponges. Did you know your dish sponge is one of the germiest things in your home. If you still use a dish sponge, nuke them once a week. Simply place them in the dishwasher once a week or microwave them damp on high for 30 seconds.
  3. Step outside. Fresh air can boost oxygen flow to your brain. Combine this with a brisk walk and you will boost your endorphins and energy level.
  4. Shout out to Lavender. Incorporate some lavender into your day. Diffuse lavender essential oils, use organic lavender scented soaps and lotions, or light an organic lavender candle. The scent of lavender is relaxing, can help you sleep better, and decreases stress.
  5. Drink more water. Sounds easy but most people do not drink enough water during the day. Think of water as a nutrient your body needs to replace the large amount of water lost each day. Water is good for your internal organs and your skin. Set a “water goal” and drink up.
  6. Think veggies. Try and fill half of your plate with veggies or a mix of veggies and fruit. If your steak takes up more than half of your plate, cut the steak in half and add more veges.
  7. Don’t forget your teeth. Dental health has been linked to premature heart disease. Floss and brush, and make that dental cleaning appointment. Brush twice and floss once a day.
  8. Eat breakfast, everyone knows it’s the most important meal of the day. It’s the most important meal because there is a strong correlation between eating a balanced breakfast each day and maintaining weight loss.
  9. Shoulders back!! Good posture affects both your physical and mental health.
  10. Reduce your screen time. Screen time includes computers, phones and t.v. This will free you up for more interactive, and physical activities or relaxing activities.

FDA medical adviser: ‘Congress is owned by pharma’ https://justasksusie.com/2019/06/06/fda-medical-adviser-congress-is-owned-by-pharma/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=fda-medical-adviser-congress-is-owned-by-pharma Thu, 06 Jun 2019 17:25:02 +0000 https://justasksusie.com/?p=550 My 30+ years in the medical industry gave me insight on one of the biggest public health issues our nation is dealing with.

Many Americans are overprescribed medication that they don’t necessarily need.

As an oncology nurse, seeing patients placed on medication after medication to combat side effects of other treatment was distressing.

Even worse, chronic treatment meant a daily cocktail of prescription drugs for many of my patients.

Not only is this pattern expensive, but it’s ruining our health.

The Numbers

In a shocking interview, Yahoo! Finance got insider perspective on the pharmaceutical industry with Dr. Raeford Brown, pediatrician and chair of the FDA Committee on Analgesics and Anesthetics.

Dr. Brown revealed that Big Pharma has a lobbying relationship with Congress that is dangerous to drug regulation.

“The pharmaceutical industry pours millions of dollars into the legislative branch every single year,” he told Yahoo Finance. “In 2016, they put $100 million into the elections. That’s a ton of money.”

Dr. Raeford Brown

To put this in more concrete terms, OpenSecret.org listed the 20 biggest benefactors of Big Pharma in the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The member with the largest pharmaceutical lobby contribution was Democratic senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania. He was paid a whopping $532, 859 in the 2017-2018 election cycle.

Republican House member Greg Walden of Oregon came in a close second, making $460, 200 from Big Pharma in the same election cycle.

“Congress is supposed to have oversight for the FDA,” Brown said. “If the FDA isn’t going to hold pharma accountable, and Congress is getting paid to not hold pharma accountable, then it really doesn’t matter who the president is because it’s really about Congress.”

Call to Action

The facts tell us that all parts of Congress – Senate and House members, Democrats and Republicans – get significant donations from the pharmaceutical industry.

When I think of my overmedicated patients, I think of the influence Big Pharma has on lawmakers.

Huge strides have been made in medical CBD research and legalization in the past decade.

CDB, derived from the cannabis plant, shows promise in a diverse array of chronic treatment.

Medical-grade CBD has been proven to reduce or eliminate seizures in cases of debilitating epilepsy. It can alleviate symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and much more.

I encourage anyone who wants to take charge of their health to read my mini crash-course on CBD 101.
